Pilates for Older Adults

One of the best gifts we can give ourselves is a healthy mind and body. Unfortunately, more often than not, it is only once the mind and body are not quite as efficient do we recognise this value (and the gift of both!). Wear and tear, genetics, and lifestyle comes with habitual posture and movement patterns. With time we grow older, and the body naturally changes. However, maintaining functionality with an integrated mind-body awareness can be achieved through BASI (Body Arts and Science International) Pilates while working through the Block System to address “the whole”. Before beginning a Pilates class, the older adult would be advised to check in with a healthcare professional. It is important to know if any specific risk factors are present as this can change a Pilates program considerably.
